Jason Santos is appearing on the new season of “Hell’s Kitchen”, competing with other renowned chefs. This has nothing to do with e-learning per se; I interviewed him and Jody Adams at CHI a year ago and he had a lot to say about e-learning. When I asked if it is possible to learn to cook online, the blue-haired chef’s response was that it was “the silliest thing he had heard in his life.”
This brings to light the fact that not everything is best taught online. I could think of a number of other skills that are better taught in a traditional classroom. What about woodworking, science lab courses. You can’t use your sense of smell and taste to learn in an online course. I suppose it also depends on the style of the student. As e-learning expands, educators must consider such things to ensure e-learning is effective.
